In 2006 Nick was doing his sit ups one morning. He felt a pop in his head, lost his vision, started vomiting and went to the er. The doctors said nothing is wrong in terms of what brought him in, but through a series of tests they found a brain tumor. They said it was not related to the pop and if Nick hadn’t been brought in to the emergency room he wouldn’t have known. (According to Nick, that’s a God thing)
His medical team watched it with MRIs every six months for 18 months and then discovered it had grown. In 2007 Nick had the tumor removed and shortly after moved to Evansville, IN. After this invasive surgery, Nick had to learn how to walk and talk again.
In August of 2011 Nick had a reoccurrence and again underwent surgery in Nashville, IN. The recovery was mild and he had radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks. His pituitary gland was destroyed during this surgery. According to Nick, this is a “pimp gland, It controls everything that keeps you awake and moving. I take an obscene amount of medicine daily.”
Almost 3 years to the day Nick’s MRI showed a reoccurrence of the tumor.
It is inoperable.
Without starting chemotherapy this is a type of tumor in an 18 month period it can get to be grapefruit size and looks aggressive. The temporary cure makes him tired and very sick.
Where he is now: The chemo is for six months and only works on 50% of people. Nick has started his 5 rounds of chemo.
